My primary mission at SAVVIS is to help the company to expand their portfolio of Cloud Offerings with an enterprise grade Cloud Object Storage Service. 2008 - 2009: Amazon.com, Seattle, USA

Position: Principal Engineer

I joined the Amazon Web Services division to help build an enterprise-grade application platform on top of EC2 and other cloud services. The charter of the Foundational Web Services (FWS) group is to build essentially a Cloud Operating System on top of Amazon’s IaaS offering. As a key member of WFS technical leadership, I contributed to a broad variety of next generation cloud services, including: CloudWatch (Monitoring and Telemetry), Elastic Load Balancing, Relational Database Service, Virtual Private Cloud and industry’s only Cloud-based Business Process, Orchestration and Workflow Engine.

I led the development and successful delivery of EC2 Auto Scaling – industry’s first production-grade Cloud Application Management platform. The resulting solution combines the simplicity of intuitive user experience with many unique features and capabilities, including:

seamless combination of human and automatic control where system always ensures optimal performance and availability of managed application, and automatic actions can never override user directives;
ability to justify every action, tie it back to specific sequence of user requests, system decisions and asynchronous events, and create machine- and human-readable explanations;
detection of congestion and outages of data centers, networks and infrastructure, and automatic transfer of processing capability to ensure continued availability and optimal performance with automatic application rebalancing upon recovery;
automatic convergence to optimal configuration and support for Recovery-Oriented Computing.

I took charge of definition and architecture of cloud alarming and notification infrastructure.

I championed identifying, harvesting and protection of the Intellectual Property. I generated significant number of inventions, several of which have already been submitted as Patent Applications.

2004 - 2008: Sun Microsystems / SeeBeyond Technology, USA

I helped SeeBeyond and Sun identify key gaps in their SOA Product Portfolios. Having defined a technology vision, I assembled and lead the team to successful implementation and client delivery of a unique SOA Governance Platform. The solution, conceived with the explicit goal to establish Sun’s undisputable Thought Leadership and Technological Superiority in the Service Oriented Architecture arena, was the first in the industry to:

use revolutionary aspect-oriented and delegation-based governance architecture;
recognize and support Analysis-time governance;
be based on a formal Governance Information Model;
facilitate introduction into brownfield environments.

The resulting solution was sold to clients around the world, gave the company entry into accounts dominated by competitive products, served as a foundation for joint go-to-market strategies with leading Systems Integrators, and served as a powerful differentiator in new sales. Based on this work, my team prepared and submitted more than ten Invention Disclosures and Patent Applications.

As a Principal Architect (director-level position) with the CoE I had a number of ongoing responsibilities, including:

My primary role at Roundarch was to provide technical direction and overall leadership to the company’s most important projects such as US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website redesign. CDC faced the task of converting its main website, consisting of 150,000+ static pages, into a modern dynamic information portal featuring state of the art taxonomy, with integrated search, content management and delivery. The solution has to be massively scalable, supporting millions of visits per day. I also was responsible for:

Establishing Roundarch’s thought leadership in the J2EE portal arena — capitalizing on unique architectural, methodological and technical solutions that came out of my projects, I wrote several whitepapers and articles, which outline a radically new approach to building high end J2EE Enterprise Portals. I assembled and lead a team that productized this approach in a set of StartAhead® Solution Accelerators, comprising a cohesive platform for rapid development of the most challenging EIP solutions.
Assembled and developed an elite technical delivery capability for the Eastern Region — through a combination of evangelizing, training, mentoring, and attracting top talent, I built a team capable of effectively delivering high quality J2EE solutions.
Facilitated a number of successful client pursuits — provided technical leadership in the preparation of high-profile FRI and RFP responses and client pitches, where I was able position Roundarch’s approach, know-how and capabilities uniquely against the competition.
