Alex V. Maclinovsky                   Curriculum Vitae                   Career History

2010:              SAVVIS, Inc., St Louis, USA

Position:   Director, Software Development Cloud Computing

My primary mission at SAVVIS is to help the company to expand their portfolio of Cloud Offerings with an enterprise grade Cloud Object Storage Service. The scope of my responsibilities includes: long- and near-term product vision, roadmap, technology selection, API definition, integration with existing OSS, BSS and IT infrastructure, establishing developer and partner ecosystems.

2008 - 2009:    Amazon.com, Seattle, USA

Position:   Principal Engineer

Platforms:  Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), SOA, REST, Virtualization, Cloud Appliances, Virtual Private Cloud, Cloud Security and Identity, Cloud Storage

I joined the Amazon Web Services division to help build an enterprise-grade application platform on top of EC2 and other cloud services. The charter of the Foundational Web Services (FWS) group is to build essentially a Cloud Operating System on top of Amazon’s IaaS offering. As a key member of WFS technical leadership, I contributed to a broad variety of next generation cloud services, including: CloudWatch (Monitoring and Telemetry), Elastic Load Balancing, Relational Database Service, Virtual Private Cloud and industry’s only Cloud-based Business Process, Orchestration and Workflow Engine.

I led the development and successful delivery of EC2 Auto Scaling – industry’s first production-grade Cloud Application Management platform. The resulting solution combines the simplicity of intuitive user experience with many unique features and capabilities, including:

I took charge of definition and architecture of cloud alarming and notification infrastructure.

I championed identifying, harvesting and protection of the Intellectual Property. I generated significant number of inventions, several of which have already been submitted as Patent Applications.

2004 - 2008:    Sun Microsystems / SeeBeyond Technology, USA

Positions:   Engineering Manager, Sun SOA Governance Solution
Principal Architect, SOA/BI Center of Excellence (CoE)

Platforms:  Composite Applications, Enterprise Java, Enterprise Web Services.

I helped SeeBeyond and Sun identify key gaps in their SOA Product Portfolios. Having defined a technology vision, I assembled and lead the team to successful implementation and client delivery of a unique SOA Governance Platform. The solution, conceived with the explicit goal to establish Sun’s undisputable Thought Leadership and Technological Superiority in the Service Oriented Architecture arena, was the first in the industry to:

The resulting solution was sold to clients around the world, gave the company entry into accounts dominated by competitive products, served as a foundation for joint go-to-market strategies with leading Systems Integrators, and served as a powerful differentiator in new sales. Based on this work, my team prepared and submitted more than ten Invention Disclosures and Patent Applications.

As a Principal Architect (director-level position) with the CoE I had a number of ongoing responsibilities, including:

2003 - 2004:     Roundarch, Inc., Chicago, USA

Position:     Lead Technical Architect

Platforms:  Enterprise Java, J2EE Application Servers & Portals, Rational Suite, CMS, EIP and EAI based solutions (WebLogic, Vignette, Documentum, Verity, and Akamai)

My primary role at Roundarch was to provide technical direction and overall leadership to the company’s most important projects such as US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website redesign. CDC faced the task of converting its main website, consisting of 150,000+ static pages, into a modern dynamic information portal featuring state of the art taxonomy, with integrated search, content management and delivery. The solution has to be massively scalable, supporting millions of visits per day. I also was responsible for:

2000-2002:     BDO Siedman / WaveBend / Experio, Chicago, USA

Position:     Lead Technical Architect

Platforms:  Enterprise Java, J2EE Application Servers (WebLogic, WebSphere), Rational Suite, TOPLink, EAI and EIP based solutions, Oracle, Versant, ERP packages (SAP, BaaN)

I joined BDO Siedman as the lead of their technical delivery capability for the Midwest region. My ongoing responsibilities included: defining and implementing development methodology and process, identifying and fulfilling staffing requirements, evaluating client’s business and technical requirements, proposing and architecting solutions to meet those requirements and presenting them at the executive level. On projects, I was in charge of validating and proving the proposed architecture and technologies, selecting or building the necessary tools and frameworks, performing use case analysis, defining applicable design patterns, and validating the key design decisions. My teams have successfully executed a number of projects including:
